Who is Michael DeWitt Jr.?
I am an award-winning author, journalist, historian, humorist and storyteller living in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Perhaps you know me from South Carolina Wildlife magazine, or Sporting Classics magazine, or from my once nationally distributed Southern humor column, “Southern Voices, Southern Stories.” Or perhaps you know me from my national news coverage of the Alex Murdaugh crime saga, appearances on Dateline NBC and Netflix, or from my recent books, The Fall of the House of Murdaugh and Wicked Hampton County. Or perhaps you don’t know me at all. If so, now is a great time for us to get to know each other and bond over some great stories.
What is DeWitt’s End?
I want DeWitt’s End (Yes, it’s a semi-clever play on words, hope you get it) to become your favorite page for all types of captivating storytelling, from Southern humor and historical tales to true crime and Southern Gothic fiction, from poetry and flash fiction to serial novels and short stories — pretty much anything and everything I am inspired to write!
Would you like to become a part of this exciting journey?
As a writer and storyteller, I am looking to do more than gain readers. I am looking to establish a storytelling community where readers can offer feedback and suggestions. And I plan to ask you all for tips, writing prompts, and story advice - there will be times when you get to be the writer as well! Together, I hope we can make this an exciting and entertaining journey for both of us.
Want to know more?
Of course you do. I plan to share at least one type of writing at least once a week, but inspiration often doesn’t wait so look for multiple posts each week. Many posts, such as some of my previously published “classic” humor columns (like “Don’t Take the Baby in the Liquor Store” and “Saying Grace Over Edible Underwear”) will be free to all subscribers, and most fresh, new content will be available for a dirt-cheap subscription. Either way, I thank you for subscribing and thank you for reading. Please share and tell your friends, and hopefully you will stick around and read more to come soon!
